What is this website?

This website is a Blueprint that anyone can use to create their own clothing collection system in their community. Here you will find a step-by-step guide to creating such a system, physical and virtual resources for you to use, and recommendations for improving the system outlined. Everything is free to use, we just want to help make the world a more sustainable place!

 

Who is the system for?

Our original system was implemented on a residential college campus. Therefore, it is most appropriate for similar communities such as other college/school campuses, senior living communities, group homes, etc. 
 

What is the goal?

We want to help other residential-type communities replicate our system of collecting and sustainably disposing of residents' unwanted clothing. The ultimate goal of the system is to create a community that produces no textile waste by diverting all unwanted clothing to recycling centers, second-hand stores, and any other organizations that will reuse, recycle, or upcycle the clothing.

Under the "How To" page you will find a step-by-step guide to recreating the textile collection system we implemented on our University's campus along with our budget and timeline. The "Resources" page contains templates for replicating the system such as flyers, emails, and collection logs, as well as resources to help change with individual sustainable behaviors such as websites and chrome extensions. Finally, the "Improvements" lists some ways you can expand and improve upon the collection system!
